The DrivingElectric Awards, which are now in their fourth year, have once again considered electric vehicle (EV) charging services and innovations as part of their wide variety of categories. With the results now in, Zap-Map is delighted to have been named the winner of the “Best Electric-Car App” at the 2022 DrivingElectric Awards.

It is the second year in a row that Zap-Map has won the award, with the company being named the inaugural winner of the award last year.

Speaking about the award, Editor of DrivingElectric.com Richard Ingram gave more details on the category and why Zap-Map took first place.

“Zap-Map continues to be the go-to app for electric-car drivers. It remains the most comprehensive, reliable and easy-to-use platform for those wanting up-to-date information on charging point location and availability, with the added bonus of real owner reviews,” said Ingram. “Every EV owner needs Zap-Map installed on their smartphone.”

Launched in June 2014, Zap-Map’s aim is to accelerate the shift to electric vehicles and help the drive towards zero carbon mobility, The charging point map is available on iOS/Android apps as well as the live desktop map. Zap-Map currently has more than 300,000 registered users, and over 95% of the UK’s public points on its network. Over 75% of UK EV drivers have downloaded Zap-Map, with growth in Zap-Map downloads more than keeping pace with the rapid growth in the EV market.

Melanie Shufflebotham, Co-founder & COO at Zap-Map, said:

“We are really chuffed to win this award from DrivingElectric for the second year running. It’s a testament to the fantastic work the team has put in across the board, from UI/UX and software development through to data management, customer service and product management.

“With people increasingly making the switch to electric, Zap-Map’s focus is on making charging simple, enabling EV drivers to search for charge points, plan longer journeys, pay on participating networks and share updates with other EV drivers – all in one app.

“As a company we really value feedback from our user community. That’s why we work hard to understand the views of Zap-Map users and are continuously updating and improving the app for EV drivers across the country.”

Over the course of 2021, based on user feedback, Zap-Map has upgraded the app to include additional features: an improved EV model selection, updated connector filters, and an all-new route planner mode, called ‘Autoroute’. Nine charging networks have also signed up to the Zap-Pay partner network, with several scheduled to go live on the cross-network payment service in the New Year.

In June this year, Zap-Map also launched Zap-Map Plus and Zap-Map Premium on top of the app’s core search, plan and pay services, which remain free. The two advanced options are aimed at drivers who regularly use the public charging network.

In addition, it was revealed yesterday that Zap-Map made the TransportTech 50 ranking, run by BusinessCloud, which showcases the UK’s most innovative transport technology creators for 2021. Following a strong reader vote and the thoughts of an independent judging panel, Zap-Map came in at number 7 out of 50.

Other winners of the 2022 DrivingElectric Awards include the MG ZS EV, the Fiat 500, Shell Recharge, and Zappi.
