Nissan’s new Leaf 40 kWh has been awarded five-stars by crash test assessors EuroNCAP. The achievement is made all the more impressive since 2018 saw the introduction of new, tougher standards by which cars are assessed.

The Leaf was the first car to be pitted against these tougher protocols, which see a greater weighting placed on active safety systems. The Leaf’s ProPilot technology includes elements such as pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and emergency brake assist.

In the tests, the Leaf scored 93% for adult safety, and 86% for child safety, with scores awarded after a series of crash tests tha mimic real-life scenarios.

Gareth Dunsmore, Electric Vehicle Director, Nissan Europe, said: “The Euro NCAP announcement proves what we have known for a long time – that the new Nissan Leaf has exceptional safety standards and is a true pioneer in the EV space. This shows that our customers can fully trust our Nissan Intelligent Mobility vision, we are on a path to transform the way we drive and the way we live.”
