Nissan’s new Leaf 40 kWh has been awarded five-stars by crash test assessors EuroNCAP. The achievement is made all the more impressive since 2018 saw the introduction of new, tougher standards by which cars are assessed.
The Leaf was the first car to be pitted against these tougher protocols, which see a greater weighting placed on active safety systems. The Leaf’s ProPilot technology includes elements such as pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and emergency brake assist.
In the tests, the Leaf scored 93% for adult safety, and 86% for child safety, with scores awarded after a series of crash tests tha mimic real-life scenarios.
