Renault has launched a new version of its Zoe – the Zoe R110. Offering more power over the existing model, the all-electric supermini is now available with an additional 12kW (16hp).

Acceleration is improved naturally, particularly at speed where two seconds have been shaved off the time to accelerate from around 50mph to 75mph (80-120kph) – an area that EVs other than Tesla’s traditionally start to lose ground to conventionally powered vehicles.

Renault says that the Zoe R110 ‘packs the same punch as the R90’ at lower speeds, with 225 Nm available from the 80 kW electric motor in an instant. There are now five different electric motors available across all Renault designed and built variants, with the Zoe, Kangoo Z.E, and Master Z.E. joined by the Smart electric line-up too.

On top of the added power, equipment upgrades include the availability of Android Auto within R-Link, and a new metallic purple called Aconite. Available from the Dynamique Nav model, the Zoe can also be specified with a new Purple Interior Pack which includes violet satin finish on the dashboard, air vent, gear lever base, speaker surrounds, and stitching on the upholstery.

No mention has been made on any impact on range, though there isn’t expected to be much if any. The Zoe is likely to remain one of the class leading EVs in terms of range even with a more powerful motor. Renault is waiting on testing under the new WLTP procedure before announcing final figures.

Order books for the new model will open in spring 2018, with first deliveries expected in late summer. UK pricing and specification details will be revealed closer to on-sale date.
