Tesla has produced its 1 millionth vehicle – and of course all of them are pure-electric. It is the first manufacturer to reach the EV milestone, with significant growth in recent years thanks to the Model 3 joining the established Model S and Model X in the range.

With the Model Y compact SUV not far away, Tesla’s production shows no signs of slowing up, especially with new factories due in coming years. The announcement of the landmark vehicle came from Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s Twitter account.

Manufacturers such as BMW and Chinese EV giant BYD are close to the 1 million mark for their electric vehicles, but these totals include plug-in hybrid models as well as pure-electrics. Tesla’s electric-only line-up guarantees that its production milestone is made up of pure-EVs alone.
