Volkswagen has handed over the first ID.3 models to UK customers. Deliveries of the highly-anticipated new EV began over the weekend, as VW launches the ‘third chapter’ in its history.

Pitched as important as the Beetle and Golf, the ID.3 is the first model to arrive on the VW Group’s MEB platform – an architecture designed specifically for electric powertrains.

The ID.3 1st Edition models feature a 260 mile range thanks to a 58 kWh battery. This powers a 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor, and the battery can be charged at up to 100 kW on DC ultra-rapid charger points.

Deliveries began on Friday evening and the new model has been certified by Germany’s TUV Nord organisation as being carbon neutral – something that can largely be carried on into working life with the use of renewable electricity.

Equipment such as 19-inch alloys, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, LED headlights, and natural voice command with navigation are fitted. Features include interior space comparable with a VW Passat, the performance of a Golf GTI, and a tight turning circle.

Additional versions of the new VW ID.3 will be available to buy in the near future, with a variety of battery capacities confirmed to come to the UK market.
