Bristol Airport has taken delivery of a new electric vehicle for use by its in-house Information Technology (IT) team.
The Nissan e-NV200 is the first 100 per cent electric powered vehicle on the 176 hectare site, and has been purchased with support from TravelWest.
The e-NV200 combines storage space, manoeuvrability and fuel efficiency, and will use an electric charging socket installed in front of the Airport’s Administration Building.
In addition, passengers using electric vehicles to get to and from the Airport will soon be able to make use of two further charging points in the short stay car park which will be available from early January 2015.
These will add to the existing charging infrastructure in the Bristol area.
Melanie King, Environment Manager, Bristol Airport said: “The new vehicle has been well received by the IT team in their work maintaining equipment and supporting staff across the Airport site.
“Sustainability is a key focus for us and we are always looking to explore technology which can help us reduce our impact on the local environment.
“This is one of several initiatives we will be progressing over the course of the next 12 months in recognition of Bristol’s status as European Green Capital.”
The addition of the electric vehicle to the Bristol Airport fleet follows the recent introduction of the UK’s first ever bus powered of food and human waste on the service between Bath and Bristol Airport.
The Bath Bus Company and Wessex Water are trialling the ‘Bio Bus’ with the objectives of utilizing renewable fuels and cutting emissions.
