Motor Fuel Group (MFG), the UK’s leading independent forecourt operator, has announced an electric vehicle (EV) partnership deal in Glasgow, which will see the operator open an ultra-rapid EV charging hub at the city’s Great Western Retail Park.

Great Western Retail Park, which is prominently located on the A82, is one of the main arterial routes into the city centre. The new MFG EV Power hub, featuring eight 150kW ultra-rapid charging devices and an all-weather canopy, will be situated adjacent to Starbucks in the Park’s car park and it is expected to open in Q3 this year. The retail park itself includes a B&Q, Sainsburys and Currys amongst other outlets.

“This is another exciting development in our drive to build the UK’s best network of ultra-rapid EV hubs across the country. We have already invested significantly and ahead of the curve on EV charging across our own forecourt network as part of our dual-fuel strategy to support the UK’s transition to electric motoring,” said William Bannister, MFG’s chief executive officer.

“We are working with leading real estate owners and managers to provide best-in-class destinations to meet the inevitable demand for easy access EV charging from the motorist in high traffic retail locations.”

The partnership will add another premium location to MFG’s growing national MFG EV Power network, which is soon to go live on cross-network payment service Zap-Pay.

Great Western Retail Park will benefit from a zero-capex solution, additional rental income and new on-site facilities while also demonstrate its support for a cleaner, greener environment. The charge points will offer motorists 100 miles range in approximately 10 minutes, subject to the charging capability of individual car batteries.

“We are pleased to welcome MFG’s EV Power to the Park and the EV Hub will add another market leading service for our customers. Over recent years, the retail park has seen the addition of new restaurants, an improved car park and signage which has led to a 25% increase in shoppers,” said a spokesperson for Great Western Retail Park.

“The addition of the EV Hub is part of our desire to maintain Great Western Retail Park as the premier retail warehouse location for Glasgow.”
