New Ultracharge 150 unit launched by BP Chargemaster

BP Chargemaster has launched its 150 kW ultra-rapid charger at the Fully Charged Live show, with the new charge points set to be added to the company’s Polar network in the near future.

By the end of the year, 100 Ultracharge 150 chargers are due to be installed at 50 BP forecourts, and 400 of the 150 kW units will be at petrol stations by the end of 2021.

Built in the UK, the Ultracharge 150 is a twin-connector unit, featuring CCS and CHAdeMO option. It will also be available to both Polar Plus subscribers and Polar Instant pay-as-you-go customers.

The network’s roll-out of 50 kW chargers will continue at the same time, which will continue to charge the majority of EVs on the road at the moment at the fastest speeds possible. The benefit is that these remain triple-connector units, including a 43 kW Type 2 option.

The Ultracharge 150 will allow drivers of the latest generation of EVs to make the most of their charging specifications. The Audi e-tron for example can charge at up to 150 kW, while it rivals – the Mercedes Benz EQC and Jaguar I-Pace – can charge at 110 kW and 100 kW respectively.

It’s not just the premium sector that can charge at such speeds, as the a number of new mass-market EVs can charge at speeds of up to 100 kW, including the Hyundai’s Kona Electric and Ioniq Electric, Kia’s e-Niro and new Soul EV, and the new Leaf e+.

David Martell, chief executive of BP Chargemaster, said: “We are very proud to be bringing this new 150kW ultra-fast charger to market, which will be available on the Polar network within the coming months. We shifted consumer expectations for rapid charging with the introduction of our 50kW Ultracharge unit and we are confident that the Ultracharge 150 unit will do the same for 150kW ultra-fast charging.”

Since Polar is one of Zap-Map’s dynamic data partners, new points will be added to the map as soon as they come online. You can find out more about the Polar network at Zap-Map’s Network Guide here.
