Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz, which is due to make its public debut on 9th March, should be coming to car dealerships in September this year, according to German publication Automobilwoche.
Citing company sources, the report states that Volkswagen wants to launch the new ID Buzz electric transporter in September, at a starting price of less than 60,000 euros (around £50,500). Official prices are not expected until ordering begins, which will be in May, according to Automobilwoche. Deliveries would then start from September.
To begin with, the ID. Buzz will only be available in the 4.70-metre-long version with five seats, and with rear-wheel drive. This would make the ID. Buzz similar in length to currently available MEB-based electric SUVs. Later on, an all-wheel-drive with a second electric motor in the front will apparently be added, followed by a longer version (almost 30 centimetres longer) with space for a third row of seats, in 2023.
Both the People version, with five seats for private customers, as well as the ID. Buzz Cargo (with a closed box at the rear and a flat load floor) will apparently be launched in September, according to the report. Whether the reported starting price relates to the ID. Buzz Cargo or to the People version is not clear from the report. While a possible WLTP range is not mentioned, the price suggests that the version with the 77 kWh battery (net) and the 150 kW electric motor in the rear should be available.
In January this year, Volkswagen confirmed that the electric ID. Buzz microbus would make its public debut on 9th March. The original Microbus (or VW Transporter, Kombi, Type 2, or Camper), first launched in the 1950s, is an iconic model, with the van becoming a favourite in the 1960s for its affordable pricing, flexible cabin and attractive design.
