BluePointLondon has announced key agreements with three additional London Boroughs for management and maintenance of their electric vehicle charging points as part of Source London, the capital’s electric vehicles charging network.
The new agreements with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the London Borough of Hackney and the Royal Borough of Greenwich allows BluePointLondon to take over the maintenance and operation of their electric vehicles (EV) charging points.
This announcement follows recent agreements with Transport for London (TfL), the London Borough of Sutton and the London Borough of Southwark. As of today BluePointLondon is responsible for both the management and maintenance of 110 EV charging points representing a quarter of London’s on-street charging points.
Source London currently has over 4,000 members, 1,400 EV charging points in 27 London boroughs and 39 private partners and aims to reach 6,000 points by 2018 to oversee the growth of electric cars in London.
Christophe Arnaud, Director of BluePointLondon, said: “These agreements are vital for London’s ambitions to become the electric vehicles capital of Europe. We are excited to provide residents of Kensington and Chelsea, Hackney and Greenwich with the infrastructure they deserve.
“We have already started to improve the quality and reliability of Source London and will continue to do so for the benefit of the growing number of EV users in London.”
Cllr Tim Coleridge, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s Cabinet Member for Transport, commented on the agreement, saying: “I am delighted we have come to an agreement with BluePointLondon to take over our charging points and look forward to working with them to achieve a reliable London-wide electric vehicle charging network.
“As a Council we have been working hard for many years to cut our carbon emissions and I am sure residents and visitors to the Royal Borough will be glad to have the option of going electric.”
Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods in the London Borough of Hackney, after signing the agreement, said: “I am very pleased that BluePointLondon is taking on responsibility for the Source London network, ensuring that we get the required upgrade of electric vehicle charging facilities in the borough and commence the expansion of the network.
“I hope this will allow more residents and businesses to switch to electric vehicles which will in turn help to improve the quality of the air in Hackney.”
