Chargemaster, the largest manufacturer of electric vehicle (EV) charging points in the UK, has made a pledge to continue its free domestic charge point offer; the offer now includes a free POLAR network subscription and free online usage monitoring as well.

Chargemaster’s free 3.7kW home charge unit offer is subsidised by a new £9 million government-backed Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), that was announced by OLEV in June 2014. The funding runs from the 1st September 2014 to the 31st March 2015, with an interim scheme bridging the gap in August.

The popular, slow rated (3.7kW) Chargemaster Homecharge i unit will remain free of charge for customers who are eligible for the government grant; recipients under the new EVHS scheme are required to own or have on order a plug-in vehicle.

Chargemaster has also revealed that customers who take advantage of the free charging unit will gain access to Chargemaster’s POLAR network, with a free 6 month membership (normally £20 per year). This will give EV drivers the benefit of charging at thousands of publicly accessible points all over the UK, which can be located using Zap-Map Live.

In addition, customers will be able to manage their electricity usage by monitoring the charge units output online, again for free!

The Chargemaster Homecharge unit is the most popular domestic charging unit in Europe and charges at up to three times faster than a standard 13-amp domestic socket. It is also far safer than using a 13-amp domestic supply, being wired on a dedicated electrical circuit in accordance with strict industry safety standards.

Over 20,000 Homecharge units have been supplied in the UK and throughout nine other European countries.

David Martell, Chargemaster’s founder and chief executive confirmed its ongoing support for the UK government initiative: “We are delighted to offer a free unit under the new scheme with support from the government. Chargemaster is not only subsidising the cost of the domestic unit, but also giving electric vehicle buyers greater flexibility to charge away from home with six months’ free access to the national POLAR Network. Being able to see one’s electricity usage at home and in addition across the POLAR network is all part of the high level of service that Chargemaster offers to support EV car buyers”
