High-power electric vehicle (EV) charging network IONITY has announced it is extending its network of charging stations in the UK, with a brand new charging station opening in Glasgow.
To celebrate this, IONITY will be providing free charging during the first weekend of COP26 to customers at its high-power Polmadie charging station, built to facilitate not only emissions-free but also carbon-neutral driving. COP26 is the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties, which runs in Glasgow from 31st October to 12th November.
Customers will be able to take advantage of free charging from 10am Saturday 30th October 2021 until 23:59 on Monday 1st November 2021. The Polmadie charging station will be newly opened on Saturday 30th October, where those attending COP26 or travelling through the local area will be able to take advantage of the free charging devices – and will be some of the first people to ever charge their EV at the new location.
There are six 350kW EV charging devices at the new Polmadie station, which use the European standard Combined Charging System (CCS), all built to facilitate ultra-fast charging. IONITY has pushed forward this opening to coincide with COP26 and provide free charging to those who are travelling in EVs to and from COP26.
IONITY’s Polmadie high-power charging station is located on 109 Polmadie Rd, Glasgow G5 0BA, a ten-minute drive from the Scottish Events Campus, where COP26 is taking place. The charging station is located next to the brand new Starbucks, so EV drivers themselves can also recharge while charging their EVs.
IONITY chargers use only 100% renewable energy, and provide emission free and carbon neutral driving across Europe. In the UK, IONITY has just under 70 ultra-rapid charging devices, located up and down the country. In Europe, where IONITY is Europe’s largest high-power charging network, IONITY’s charging stations for electric vehicles are available in over 370 locations, with approximately 1,500 charge points in total across the European network.
