British bank NatWest wants to install 600 electric vehicle (EV) charging points across its UK locations by 2023. The charging points will also be available for use by the bank’s customers. The contract to supply the charging infrastructure been awarded to the Engie brand EQUANS.

The bank also wants to convert its fleet to 300 electric vehicles. While the charging points will be optimised for the company’s own fleet, they will also be available for its customers.

“At NatWest we are helping our staff decarbonise transport and achieve Net Zero commuting. Working in partnership with EQUANS to provide EV Chargepoints at key strategic office locations supports our staff in making that transition to Electric Vehicles and help reduce our carbon footprint,” said Michael Lynch, Climate Solutions Lead at NatWest.

NatWest has strategically selected locations where demand is high and power is readily available. The partnership with EQUANS, the new brand for global energy company Engie’s service-led activities, will benefit both employees and customers of the bank, while the chargers will also support the company’s transition to an electric fleet.

EQUANS recently secured the five-year deal to supply, commission and operate a network of more than 600 EV charging points across NatWest office locations in the UK.

Access to the charging points will be for staff, visitors and customers at NatWest offices, using the EQUANS’ GeniePoint platform – which also powers one of the largest national EV networks, the GeniePoint network. EQUANS will install high-specification Alfen Pro-Line 7.4kW dual chargers.

The first NatWest chargers are to go into operation before the end of August at Donegall Square East in Belfast.

“This partnership demonstrates a clear and strong commitment from NatWest on where they stand on the net zero transition,” said Jerry Moloney, Managing Director for EQUANS’ Futures business in the UK & Ireland.

“The only way we will convince a greater proportion of the population to consider electric vehicles is by giving them greater options and better access to chargers. This investment from NatWest does exactly that.”

EQUANS recently signed an agreement with Zap-Map to include GeniePoint in the Zap-Pay partner network. The companies have begun work on technical integration, which is due be completed in August. Once finalised, GeniePoint will be fully up and running as an established Zap-Pay partner. GeniePoint will become the fourth network to come online with Zap-Pay.
